Setup Steps Overview
TaskClone enhances productivity by automatically transferring action items from your notes to your task app or calendar via "Connections". This article provides an overview with links to detailed guides for each step of Initial Setup.
Step 1. - How TaskClone works
Summarizes how TaskClone works and introduces the questions Initial Setup answers
- What is your source app for action items?
- What type of action items to transfer?
- Where in the source app should we search for these action items?
- What is your destination app for action items?
- Where in the destination app should we insert the action items?
Step 2. Configure source app
Answers questions 1 - 3
- Select source app. Pick Google Docs
- Authorize access. Authorize TaskClone to extract Google Docs action items and update their status
- Select action item type. Select to-dos as the action item for this connection to process
- Select identification method. Select tasks "Assigned" to you
Step 3. Configure destination app
Answers questions 4-5
- Select destination app. Pick OmniFocus
- Enter Destination Email. OmniFocus receives tasks via email that it then converts to tasks. If you don’t know the special email address OmniFocus uses, our instructions help you find it.
Basic Usage
The Process
Copy to-dos from Google Docs. Simply start a line with a checklist and write your task after the checkbox. Click the "Add to tasks" icon left of the check box and assign the task to yourself (optionally add a due date).
Note: Currently, you must have a Google work or school account to use this feature. Learn more
What Happens
TaskClone also proactively checks your Google account for updates on a regular basis (currently every 3 minutes). If updates are found, TaskClone immediately processes to-dos based on the criteria set for the Connection in Step 2 above.
By default, TaskClone adds a link to the Google Doc in the task so you can easily move from the task to the note for reference..
Advanced Usage
TaskClone offers advanced features, some needing pre-configuration and others usable directly within your notes. See below for the most popular and our full Feature List for even more ways to enhance your Google Docs to OmniFocus Integration.
- Skip tasks. Using our special syntax, you can indicate which tasks you want to skip
- Add default text. Edit your connection to add default text to each task for a connection.
- Specify an alternative destination. Once you’ve set up two or more destinations, you can use our special syntax to send an individual action item to a different destination than the other action items in the note.
Special Considerations
You must have a Google work or school account to use Google Docs with TaskClone as this is necessary to assign checklist items to yourself or others in your organization. The good news is once this requirement is met, your teams can capture tasks in Google Docs and with TaskClone each team member could use the same task app or different ones by using TaskClone to keep everything in sync.
